Celebrities
and Causes
Let
me sing the praises of Ashton Kutscher and
Demi Moore-like they need more praise sung
by a larger choir. They have beauty, talent, fame,
AND each other!
I'm
projecting here but if I had a "love"
that fine, I'd like to think we'd hardly get out
of the bedroom, let alone leave the house to do
GOOD WORKS.
The
recent brouhaha involving the Village Voice's accusations
that the remarkable documentary that this extraordinary
couple made for CNN contained flawed data on the
actual number of stolen and enslaved women is so
non-sensical it begs the question: WHY?
What
is the motivation behind this publication's specious
accusations that the number of women stolen and
sold into sexual slavery was "exaggerated"
but further they condemned the motivation and personal
intergrity of Ms. Moore and Mr. Kutscher. Add that
the debate takes an uglier turn when it turns on
most celebrities who use their visibility to fight
for right.
That
was a run on sentence, wasn't it? Too bad, I'm grammatically
unrepentant because the Village Voice ran on with
unendingly stupid, mercenary mercantile venom against
this couple. After SEEING their documentary about
crimes in Nepal against women and children, my respect
for these two people has sky-rocketed.
Watch
it! It's strong, it's true. It's especially compelling
to further the experience with a turn to google.
I suggest you look into this same issue RIGHT HERE
IN THE UNITED STATES.
Sex
Traffickers/Pimps can recruit a youngster (male
or female) from the Internet and have them in motels
and truck stops within days, even hours. (UGH Craig's
List-how many more murders before they eliminate
the possibility of another "Craig's List Killer"
from their site?)
The
Village Voice USED to be a fine alternative New
York newspaper, it's still available free on most
street corners. Used to be fine, now the back pages
of it are FILLED with sexual services ads, often
with pictures that loom leeringly at you. I've tried
"not to look" but fat chance getting that
chick's bare fanny out your face as you try to find
the good old stuff that hallmarks this historically
New York-ian publication.
Maybe
the Village Voice has apologized to Mr. Kutscher
by now. I'd like to think they would, but then:
I REALLY WANT WORLD PEACE.
So
IN PRAISE of George Clooney (yeah he's not
needing my approval added either) Sandra Bullock,
Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and ALL celebrities
who devote huge portions of their TIME and MONEY
to RAISING AWARENESS, SERVING SOLUTIONS, SAVING
LIVES: Thank you!
To
whom much is given, much is expected. You have to
give it away, to keep it.
HEY,
